CommentCountry codes should still be a thing. (Score 2)52

VOIP should be required to follow that same rule. Disallow number spoofing even for corporations. Bam, now we can just block entire countries by caller id.

If this makes call support centers move back to the home country that would be just icing on the cake.

Sure poke holes in this idea, but the current situation is a failure.

I can visualize a 'horse' power, not so much a kilowatt. Same with a foot but not so much a decimeter. I guess it's just what you grew up with.

On the other hand everyone grows up with cups and spoons but not so much a cubic centimeter. The 2 Litre soda bottle has existed seemingly forever though, even in the US, so I can visualize 2 litres, just not 1:D.

Those are peak numbers though, unless you are in a data center (which admittedly Seagate is targeting with their own numbers), that SSD is mostly idle because it is just that much faster completing a task. That idle disk will always be spinning (yes it can sleep but modern systems simply write or read too often for that to occur) using close to that 12v number to spin spin spin.

I don't think anyone misses the noise of a spinning disk.

CommentIf I want a TV I don't want a fucking billboard. (Score 1)122

I actually like my circa-2010 LG TV (pre-ad-fest, doesn't even have networking), it still works but is used less each year since sitting at a smaller screen with the ability to block and skip ads is more important now than being at a big screen, at least for me.

Any brands left that just sell a TV or monitor? No ethernet or wifi is a plus.

The battery of the month card was a thing, one free cheap battery per month.

For a time they were giving out coupons for a free 4-C cell flashlight, of about 4 I had they all eventually cracked from the stress of the overly strong spring that served as the battery contact. That spring was something, drop flashlight and it would pop the yellow screw-on lens cover clear off the body and across the room.

Radio shack was the original re-badge operation, just about everything not under the Tandy brand was from another manufacturer with their name stamped on it.
